The Avocado Grid

Starting from a simple, everyday material - avocado skin, which I chose after noticing how much of it I was throwing away - I began researching its properties and cultural background. This led me to discover its connection to the Classic Maya writing system, which became the foundation of the project.

Alongside this research, I experimented extensively with the material itself which revealed a complex texture that, once printed with ink, had a rich and distinctive visual language. I digitized and transformed these textures into a collection of “building blocks” that designers can use as creative components.

Using the structure of the Classic Maya script as a reference, I developed a modular grid system that allows these blocks to be arranged systematically, enabling the creation of organized yet organic pattern compositions.

Rooted in culture and material exploration, the work reflects my passion for designing systems and structures that guide both creativity and functionality.
