Traditional Pattern Stamps

A project born from a fascination with reconnecting to my cultural roots and a desire to make traditional Romanian symbols feel engaging to my generation.

Focusing on motifs from my home region in South-West Transylvania, I began with research into traditional embroidery and decorative symbols used in local textiles. I identified key recurring forms and recreated them digitally, before laser-cutting them onto rubber to make stamps that could be used freely in new compositions.

Through hands-on experimentation with stamping, layering, and colour, I explored how these symbols could take on new life and movement when used as modular design elements. This playful process led to a collection of postcards, bookmarks, and wrapping paper, that merge the authenticity of traditional patterns with the spontaneity of modern graphic expression.

The project is both personal and cultural: a tribute to my family and heritage, but also a way to invite young Romanians to rediscover the beauty of their visual traditions through a modern, tactile medium.
